Monash University
I’m currently pursuing my Master of Financial Mathematics at Monash University. My academic journey started with a passion for finance, mathematics, and computer science. This led me to specialize in quantitative finance, where I’ve gained expertise in derivative pricing, risk management, and computational methods. I’m particularly fascinated by dynamic risk prediction, blending my interests in computing to develop advanced models that anticipate market risks in real-time. My goal is to leverage these skills to drive innovation in areas like dynamic risk management and portfolio optimization.
Can you give me a quick rundown about the type of mathematics you are studying and its potential impacts for the broader community (think how you would explain your work and studies to others who don’t study maths)
I’m studying Financial Mathematics, which is the application of mathematical models and techniques to solve problems in finance. This includes using partial differential equations (PDEs) and stochastic differential equations (SDEs) for pricing financial derivatives, simulations for risk measurement, and optimization for portfolio management. The impact of this field is significant, it helps in managing financial risks, creating efficient investment strategies, and ensuring the stability of financial markets. By making financial markets more predictable and manageable.
How did you get into mathematics/statistics/data science? Was there someone or something that inspired you to this field?
My interest began in high school after reading a biography of Jesse Livermore. His ability to predict market dynamics through patterns inspired me to explore the quantitative side of finance. Later, during my undergraduate studies, a supportive teacher helped me advance my programming skills, deepening my passion for using technology to solve complex problems. These experiences led me to pursue Financial Mathematics, where I could combine finance, math, and technology to develop innovative solutions for the financial industry.
You received a Travel Grant to attend AMSI Summer School 2025. How important was this in terms of your ability to attend, fully participate in the program and meet others studying in similar fields? Do you think it was an advantage to attend the program in-person?
Attending in-person was invaluable. It enabled me to interact with leading researchers and fellow students, participate in labs and activities, and engage in discussions that deepened my understanding of the subject. The in-person experience also facilitated networking, which is essential for future collaborations and career opportunities.
What was the most valuable part of the program for you?
The most valuable part of the AMSI Summer School was the opportunity to learn from experts in machine learning and data science. The courses provided a comprehensive overview of the latest techniques and applications in these fields, which are highly relevant to my studies in Financial Mathematics.
