Fostering the next generation of Mathematical Scientists

AMSI hosts two annual research training schools. Designed for Honours and Postgraduate students as well as Early Career Researchers, these events aim to foster and strengthen the mathematical sciences community through further study, professional development, collaboration and social interaction.

Winter School

The aim of AMSI Winter School is to develop the next generation of mathematical scientists as they continue to deepen their knowledge in their research field of expertise.

Focused on a specialised theme each year, the impressive line up of international and domestic speakers build knowledge in the field, and introduce students to cutting edge research and methodologies. The two-week program is specifically designed for postgraduate students and early career researchers and includes lectures and workshops with some of the world’s leading mathematicians. The program also includes social and networking events, interactive panel sessions and a public lecture.

Summer School

AMSI Summer School is the biggest national event in Australia for honours and postgraduate students in the mathematical sciences. The four week program offers eight exciting subjects by specialist lectures from around Australia and provides students the opportunity to develop their mathematical skills, meet like-minded people and network with potential future employees.

The carefully selected courses ensure students have access to a wide range of specialised mathematics, statistics, and cognate courses informed by the latest developments, some of which may not be offered at their home university. Students choose to study one or two courses and, with permission from a home university, students can use an AMSI Summer School subject to gain credit towards their degree.

The School also features a number of program extras including social events, a careers session, public lecture and Diversity in STEM events.
