The Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) congratulates Dr Jane Elith on her inclusion as one of six science leaders honoured in today’s announcement of the 2015 Prime Minister’s Prize for Science.
One of Australia’s most respected environmental scientists, Dr Elith was named recipient of the Frank Fenner Prize for Life Scientist of the Year in recognition of the global impact of her research developing species distribution models.

Highlighting the broad impact of mathematical sciences, AMSI welcomes this recognition of Dr Elith’s outstanding work using statistical models and data to understand the relationship between species and the environment.
“ We congratulate Dr Elith on this deserved honour, which recognises her outstanding contribution to environmental science and the role of mathematical sciences in addressing ongoing environmental challenges both here in Australia and globally,” says AMSI Director Professor Prince.
AMSI also congratulates this year’s Prime Minister’s Prize for Science winner, Professor Graham Farquhar who received top honours for his ground breaking research on photosynthesis.
In total, six Australian scientific research and training leaders were honoured in today’s announcement. AMSI congratulates this year’s winners for their contributions to Australian science and innovation.
