Our Program
AMSI Research and Higher Education delivers and funds national online and face-to-face mathematical sciences research training.
We support undergraduate students through to early-career researchers and professionals by:
Supplementing university curriculums
The ACE Network and annual AMSI Summer School provide Honours, Masters and PhD students access to mathematical science courses in key topics which may not be available at their home university with the option for the classes to be taken for credit towards their degree.
Providing discipline-specific careers advice
Multiple career events ranging in formats from interactive panel sessions, specialised presentations and career fairs are delivered annually at AMSI BioInfoSummer, AMSIConnect and AMSI Summer School to promote career awareness, educational and job pathways, and to increase employability.
Building strong science communication skills
Through the AMSI Vacation Research Scholarship program, undergraduate students are mentored through a 6-week research project, a presentation of their findings (often their first in a mathematical conference setting) and the writing of a formal research report.
New and established mathematical scientists have the opportunity to present posters, conference presentations and research talks at BioInfoSummer, Optimise, Winter School, Summer School and AMSI Scientific Workshops.
Creating networking opportunities
The AMSI Research and Higher Education calendar of activities brings the Australian mathematical sciences community together multiple times throughout the year. Students, researchers and industry professionals have the opportunity to meet and build their national and international networks with each other and the invited speakers.
AMSI Travel Grants ensure these networking opportunities are accessible to students across Australia by providing funding to assist with the travel and accommodation expenses of attending interstate Research and Higher Education events.
Facilitating new collaborations
AMSI Optimise fosters research collaborations between academia and industry by connecting business with Australia’s future workforce.
Similarly, BioInfoSummer and the AMSI Scientific Workshops create connections within the academic community and between the academic community and industry for future partnerships.
